What is Lexan®?

Lexan® is a brand name for a polycarbonate sheet of plastic. This plastic sheeting is durable, heat resistant, and so impact resistant that "bulletproof" glass is made of Lexan®.

Lexan® offers brilliant optical clarity with a unique combination of properties, which makes it an excellent candidate for safety and security glazing to suit a wide range of applications.

Lexan® features include:

• Extremely high impact resistance

• High resistance to abrasion (scratching)

• High resistance to the effects of weathering

• High resistance to chemicals

• Superior fire performance

• Safe and easy to handle and install

• Impact/chip resistance is much higher (about 300 times more resistant than glass)

• Less likely to scratch

• Substantially more expensive. (roughly 2 to 3 times)

• Used for more industry applications

• Bulletproof when thick enough.

• More bendable under normal temperatures (0-20°C)

• Easier to work with (cut, less likely to break)
